After teaching elementary school
for 8 years, I resigned from my teaching position to stay
at home with my then two-year-old daughter and newborn son.
I am presently a stay-at-home-wife/mom and owner of Sidewalk
Sensations.
I began making my sidewalk paint
in Spring of 2001 as my daughter was beginning to develop
an interest in art. As a stay-at-home-mom, I was always interested
in activities to entertain my kids. My daughter had received
some sidewalk paint as a gift for her third birthday. She
loved it, and we quickly used her entire supply. I searched
and searched but learned that the company was no longer carrying
the sidewalk paint product. Very disappointed, I decided to
make some sidewalk paint of my own.
My "budding young artist"
and I painted regularly. We painted messages to my husband,
"We love you, Daddy!" and decorated the message
with painted hearts and flowers. My neighbor would later tell
me that her husband was a little jealous, "Why don't
you do things like that for me?" he asked her. From time
to time, neighborhood kids would come and join in the fun,
covering large portions of my driveway with their artwork.
All seemed to enjoy the paint very much.
Adults really enjoy it, too. I can
remember taking my homemade paints to a large family gathering
and watching an equal number of children and adults painting.
Even the grandparents were participating! I knew then that
this paint was something special. That's when I came up with
the idea for making , packaging, and selling my sidewalk paint.
My husband and a neighbor were talking
one day when I approached them. The neighbor asked me if I
had any inventions that would make a million dollars for us.
I told him that I had an idea, but I wasn't sure if it would
make a million.
In Spring of 2002 my cousin started
a small business of her own. She was doing very well, and
I was inspired. I decided it was time to start MY own business
making and selling my sidewalk paint. I callled and asked
her several questions and within two weeks, I had purchased
all of my supplies and put together a few buckets. I sent
emails to friends and family asking them to "spread the
word" about my Sidewalk Sensations Sidewalk Paint. Within
days, I received over 200 orders! My neighbor even bought
a bucket for her young son so that they could paint messages
for her husband on their driveway.
I am still selling my Sidewalk Sensations
Sidewalk Paint by word-of-mouth and at craft shows, but I
would also like to share this wonderful product with you and
your families. I am now venturing into internet sales with
the hope that you will enjoy the time you share painting masterpieces
with your children as much as I have.
